ARTAA and de Young joint fund-raiser
As a part of San Francisco Rug Week 12-17 October 2010 there will be a joint fund-raiser in a cooperation between the Antique Rug & Textile Art Association (ARTAA) and de Young Museum. This event will take place Friday 15 October from 5-7pm at the de Young Museum.
“It will include a private showing of 10 rarely seen specially selected pieces from the museum’s collections that we feel will appeal to the October Rug Week participants as well as a viewing of the Textile Departments current show, To Dye For: A World Saturated in Color. This exhibition is a selection of different resist-dyed textiles from cultures around the world” says ARTAA’s Ben Banayan to Jozan Magazine.
The admission fee is $40 (standard) and $25 for members of TAC (Textile Arts Council), Art Museums of San Francisco and ARTAA.
“Those who would like to participate are encouraged to RSVP as soon as possible with me” says Ben Banayan.

The San Francisco Rug Week 12-17 October include the Antique Rug & Textile Show at Motel Capri, an opening reception and lectures at Krimsa Gallery, Tribal SF 2010 at Fort Mason, a Rug & Textile Evening at the De Young Museum and several other rug events.
Among them the exhibition “Ersari Main Carpets, an exhibition of Central Asian weavings from the Middle Amu Darya” arranged by Carpets of the Inner Circle, 444 Jackson St., San Francisco. This event includes an opening reception and lecture by SFBARS president, Peter Poullada, 14 October 7pm.
Thomas Cole, Tribal Rugs & Textile Art, 2001 Huckleberry Rd., San Rafael CA, will hold an exhibition “Ancient Imprints - Turkmen Textile Art” from 9 October – 12 December 2010. The opening reception will be Saturday 16 October 6:00 pm – 9:30 pm.
James Blackmon Gallery, 2140 Bush St. 1, San Francisco, will hold an exhibition “Andean Textile Traditions: Pre-Columbian to 19th century weavings” from 11 October through 18 October 2010.

Bonhams & Butterfields auction “Fine Oriental Rugs and Carpets” will take place 27 September 2010 in Los Angeles and San Francisco. The auction includes 319 lots.

ARTS events – San Francisco Rug Week
ARTS, now in its second year, has become a premier show venue in North America for antique Oriental rugs. Over 40 international dealers will display antique rugs and textiles 12-17 October 2010, 10am – 8pm at Motel Capri.
A special exhibition of Chinese Pile Squares co-sponsored by the San Francisco Bay Area Rug Society, will take place at Motel Capri on all show days 10am – 6pm.
Opening Lectures and Reception will start Wednesday 13 October 7:30 pm at Krimsa Gallery, 2190 Union ST, a few minutes walk from the Capri.
This years show includes an event “Bargains Under $500″ which will take place in suite 206 at Capri each day during ARTS. The room will be comprised of pieces contributed by all of the show’s dealers priced under $500. This should present opportunities for beginning collectors as well as some real deals for more advanced collectors.
Free Appraisal Day and Evening are held Wednesday evening 13 October from 5pm- 7pm and Sunday 17 October from 11am – 3pm at the Capri, suite 206. Visitors are invited to receive a free expert appraisal for their antique Oriental rugs and ethnographic textiles.
A joint fund-raiser organized by ARTAA and De Young Museum’s Department of Textile Arts will take place in Friday evening 15 October. This evening at De Young Museum seldom exhibited selections from the department’s holdings will be on display.
This years show is sponsored by the Antique Rug & Textile Art Association and the organizer and coordinator is Ben Banayan, San Francisco Antique Rug & Textile dealer and co-founder of the popular online antique rug marketplace Rugrabbit.

Bonhams auction including carpets
Bonham’s auction Design Period including carpets will take place 7 September 2010 at Knightsbridge in London. The auction includes 40 rugs and carpets in the price range 100 – 2.000 GBP.

Persian flat woven art
Saman Maleknia, Iranian architect, is running an exhibition of Persian rugs 15 August – 15 september 2010 in KEO Headquarters Kuwait Free Trade Zone, Shuwaik.
My exhibition Saman Woven Art Collections demonstrates my passion for Persian carpets which has accompanied me since my early childhood” says Saman Maleknia to Jozan Magazine.

Textile Museum's Fall Symposium 15-17 October
The Textile Museum’s Fall Symposium “Tying the Rainbow – Reexamining Central Asian Ikats” will take place 15-17 October 2010.
Drawing inspiration from the Textile Museum’s fall exhibition Colors of the Oasis: Central Asian Ikats, this symposium and conference will explore the tradition of Central Asian ikats.
On Friday 15 October there will be an opening reception at the Textile Museum, 2320 S Street NW , 7:30 pm with a preview of the new exhibition Colors of the Oasis: Central Asian Ikats.
The academic program Saturday 16 October from 9:00 am will take place at the Phillips Collection Auditorium, 1600 21st Street NW.

Carpet Design Awards at Domotex 2011
The Sixth Carpet Design Awards will take place at Domotex Hannover from 15-18 January 2011.
The competition in January 2011 will also be open to handmade carpet producers who do not exhibit at the fair . According to the organizers, Deutsche Messe, Hali and Cover, this ensures that the awards are the ultimate accolade worldwide for handmade carpets, confirming the stature of the winners as truly at the leading edge of the industry.
The categories include Modern Design, Nomadic Design, Workshop, Antique Carpet, Modern Collection, Traditional Collection and Innovation.
Deadline for entries and payments are 5 November 2010.

Exhibition of Caucasian rugs
The Oriental Rug Society in Gothenburg ( AKREP ) will hold an exhibition of antique Caucasian rugs 20 November through 16 December 2010.
The exhibition is arranged by AKREP in cooperation with Frölunda Kulturhus. According to Sonny Berntsson from AKREP the exhibition will include ca. 70 antique rugs from private collectors.
“This exhibition will be a splendour of colours and pattern in the winter darkness and an unique possibility to view textile art handicraft from ancient times” says Lars Jurell, AKREP.
